The public has until 29 November to express their views relating to the health insurance fund. This comes as the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Health prepares to hold public hearings on the Bill in KZN.
One of the hearings will be held in the uMkhanyakude District on 22 November.
National Health Insurance is a financing system that will pool funds to provide access to quality, affordable health services for all regardless of their financial status.
According to the Department of Health, private medical schemes will continue to exist, but their role will change to provide cover for services not reimbursable by the fund.
Government is planning to stop subsidising medical aid members, especially government workers and private health care service providers, and use that money to fund the NHI.
Written submissions can also be emailed to vmajalamba@parliament.gov.za or faxed to 086 6943279.
