WITH a variety of events lined up, from beauty pageants to flea markets and dance shows, there is much on offer around the region this weekend.

FRIDAY, 6.30pm – Gear up for a fun evening of country music and dance brought to you by the Rotary Club of Empangeni and Daniel Hoffmann.

This fund-raising event will be held at Canefields Country Hotel.

Funds raised will go towards new runs for the Empangeni SPCA and much-needed repairs to a dilapidated container at Zululand Hospice.

Boerewors rolls and drinks will be on sale and guests are welcome to bring their own eats (no private alcohol permitted).

Tickets are R100 per person, and bookings are available at Zululand Canvas on 035 7871585.

SATURDAY, 7am ’til late – Shop ’til you drop at the eSikhaleni flea market at the Complex opposite Build It.
Shoppers can choose from clothing, shoe wear, home appliances, blankets, furniture, vegetables, fruit and much more.

SATURDAY, 9am – 1pm – All the Richards Bay SPCA’s charity shops will be open for its market day where supporters can browse through books, household items, pet supplies and enjoy delicious treats.

The market day is being held two weekends in a row owing to popular demand.

SATURDAY, 2.45pm – Book now to enjoy ‘Dancing to the Beat’, a matinee performance to be held at the Empangeni Civic Centre.

Organised by four dance studios, the show is being held to raise funds for a number of worthy causes, including to help leukaemia patient Karlien van Wyk, for Zulualnd Hospice and Empangeni SPCA.

Doors open at 2.45pm for the show to begin at 3pm.

The cost is R80 per person, with free entry for children under two years, and organisers have asked that everyone attending the performance bring a bag or box of dry animal food, whether dog, puppy, cat, kitten or bird food, as part of the donation to the SPCA.

SUNDAY, 9am – CANSA Shades of Pink 3km fun walk in KwaDukuza.

The cost is R100 per entry and the walk starts at KwaDukuza Mall’s Entrance 3, ending at the Manor sport grounds.

Save the date for these future events:

SATURDAY, 9 November – Save the date for the upcoming feast of bonsai as experts from Durban are booked to treat local bonsai artists to their expertise.

The workshop is hosted by the Zululand Bonsai Society and is set to take place on 9 and 10 November at the NSRI base in Meerensee.

Shaun Murphy (the Fig King) and Neil Holley will take centre stage at the event, and pass on their wealth of knowledge of a wide range of bonsai techniques on various tree species, including the fig, kanniedood and Hluhluwe creeper.

SATURDAY, 9 November, 11am – The Richards Bay Takeover Spinfest is set to take place at the ZCBF showgrounds.

There will be a show and shine, and sound competition.

Entry is R60 for adults, R40 for children under 12 and cooler boxes are R40.
