A 53-year-old woman was shot when she encountered a gunman in her outside toilet at her homestead in Nkundusi, near Mtubatuba last Wednesday.
According to Mtubatuba police spokesperson, Justice Hlabisa, neighbours said the woman went to relieve herself in the early hours of the morning, only to find a gunman hiding behind the toilet door.
He allegedly fired a shot, injuring the woman on her chin and shoulder and then fled from the scene.
‘The victim was rushed to the Nkundusi Clinic before being transferred to Hlabisa Hospital,’ said Hlabisa.
‘The motive behind the attack is still unclear at this stage. However, a case of attempted murder has been opened.
‘We appeal to anyone who could assist with information to contact the Mtubatuba police station on 035 5506100.’
Ward 9 Councillor, Vuma Madonsela, who attended the scene, blamed the ‘invisibility of the police’ in the area as a cause for criminality.
‘During the era of former Premier Senzo Mchunu there was police visibility everywhere. There was even a mobile police bus parked in Nkunduzi,’ said Madonsela.
