St Lucia’s pothole art

One pothole in Pelikaan Street, St Lucia is a persistent source of grief for motorists

AROUND the world, numerous artists are making a statement against persistent potholes.

St Lucia has its own ‘pothole artist’ who has made a statement by planting a cactus in the only pothole in town that doesn’t seem to get filled.

The St Lucia Ratepayers’ Association has done a sterling job in maintaining the town’s roads in the absence of Mtubatuba Municipality carrying out its duties, paid for by the tax payer.

However, one pothole in Pelikaan Street is a persistent source of grief for motorists in the town and always seems to escape being filled. A St Lucia resident, who asked not to be named, has taken it upon himself to make a statement in the hope the Municipality might sit up and take notice.

In a country with, at times, abominable road conditions, St Lucia is well looked after by the Ratepayers’ Association, however, this group should not be forced to carry (and pay for) the Municipality’s responsibilities.
