LEARNERS at two Mtubatuba primary schools can now enjoy safer, more dignified ablution facilities thanks to the handing over of newly constructed structures.
Assupol, in partnership with the Department of Education, has heeded the government’s call to join forces for the provision of safe school sanitation services.
The new ablution facilities at Ingaqa and Bhokoza primary schools were officially handed over earlier this month.
‘We strongly believe that we have an obligation to serve the nation in addressing the socio-economic challenges our communities are faced with,’ said Assupol Life CEO, Bridget Mokwena-Halala.
‘We felt that the campaign aligns well with our company’s strategic objectives, affording us the opportunity of responding to President Ramaphosa’s call.’
Apart from the two Mtubatuba schools, eight others across KZN and further afield benefitted from this initiative.
In total, 100 schools across three provinces are set to benefit.
This follows Assupol’s pledge to provide such facilities to 100 schools.
Praising the initiative, the then Minister of Basic Education, Angie Motshekga, said this was the largest commitment by a company.
‘We are thankful to the communities of the Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal and Limpopo for allowing us to serve them in this manner,’ said Mokwena-Halala.
‘The education of our youth is critical to the future of all South Africans and we are eager to foster this by strongly supporting these initiatives.’
