Cleaning the environment by making eco bricks
Snake Pharm in Hluhluwe has started a recycling project
BASED in Mduku near Hluhluwe, Snake Pharm appeals to members of the greater community to support its recycling initiative.
Schools, churches and families can become involved in the NPO’s recycling campaign, making and building with eco bricks.
Snake Pharm said a collaboration with the community would accelerate its project, while at the same time educate people about recycling.
Community members can help by collecting two-litre cold drink bottles and stuffing them full with plastic litter and sealing them with the lid.
It is important for the bottle to be tightly packed with plastic litter as this makes it strong enough to be used as a brick.
Five hundred bottles full of plastic waste equals 1kg of litter being recycled, which in turn both helps to clean up the environment and provide building materials in the form of eco bricks.
Snake Pharm is using the eco bricks to build an educational pit at its premises, where it can carry out more snake education talks and demonstrations.
