POLICE have arrested a 31-year-old man for allegedly stabbing his ex-girlfriend to death in front of her mother last Friday morning.
The deceased, Thandeka Nzuza (23), was at home with her mother in the KwaMshaya Reserve in Mtubatuba, when a suspect armed with a knife stormed into the house and demanded her attention.
‘My niece ignored him and the suspect became angry and pulled out his knife,’ said the woman’s uncle, Thabani Mgenge (46).
‘He pushed her into my father’s bedroom and locked the door from the inside. That is where he stabbed her multiple times.
‘My sister tried to stop him, but was overpowered. The two were in a stormy relationship before,’ said Mgenge.
‘Recently my niece reported that she was forced by the suspect to go to his house at knife point.We tried to intervene, but the abuse did not stop and she decided to end the relationship.’
Mgenge said on the day of the incident, the deceased was preparing to visit her new boyfriend in eSikhaleni.
uMkhanyakude Cluster Police spokesperson, Captain Jabulani Mdletshe said the suspect was arrested and charged with murder.
‘The suspect was rushed to KwaHlabisa Hospital for medical attention after he had tried to commit suicide after stabbing his former girlfriend to death.
‘He was discharged on Sunday and appeared in the KwaMsane Magistrate’s Court on Monday. He was remanded in police custody until next week Monday for a formal bail application,’ said Mdletshe.
