eSikhaleni construction tolerance urged
'There might be delays with traffic flow because of the upgrade closures'
With the eSikhaleni main road upgrade still underway, the City of uMhlathuze has urged motorists and pedestrians to be vigilant.
The township’s main intersection is currently under construction and with some roads closed, the project has been causing major traffic congestion.
‘We plead for patience, consideration of all road users and support for the project as it is for the betterment of the eSikhaleni community.
‘There might be delays with traffic flow because of the upgrade closures,’ said city’s Communications Manager, Mdu Ncalane.
The upgrades currently affect Mdlebe Ntshona and Mthombothi roads, as well as the Mthombothi and Nyezane intersection.
During the closures, contractors will pulverise, stabilise and conduct premixing in the area.
Appropriate signage has been erected and flagmen are posted to direct traffic.
Motorists are requested to use alternative routes indicated at strategic points along the detour route.
Motorists travelling along Mthombothi Road from the south must turn left at the Mthombothi Road and Nyezane Street intersection.
They can follow Nyezane Street and turn left at the Nyezane and Lwandle Street intersection, and follow Mhlanga Street.
At the Mhlanga Street and Mdlebe Ntshona Road intersection, drivers can turn right or left and proceed to the township’s mall.
The major construction includes the road expansion, a traffic circle and the beautification of the township’s entrance, which will include a park suitable for amusement and social activities.
The project is due to be completed in May next year.
