DIGITAL marketing strategist Zamanyambose Mthethwa (23) is hard at work promoting the beauty of Zululand to tourists.

Through her new venture, McLaw Travels, she is exploring the King Cetshwayo district and discovering exciting tourism attractions. ‘South Africa is such an exciting country from a tourism point of view, but most of us don’t properly explore it.

‘I have started showcasing our beautiful Zululand locations, but I also want locals to be exposed to other areas, learn new things and experience other cultures,’ she says.

Zama has always been fascinated by tourism and loves travelling. As an entertainer she has travelled widely across the country, but never thought of making a career out of it. After she was crowned with the Miss Zululand first princess title, she realised she was limited in her knowledge of the region she lived in.

‘I met a gentleman who believed that as a beauty queen I must have travelled to many places. ‘He asked me about local places, but I didn’t know them, and that’s when I realised many of us don’t even do local tourism. ‘I decided to change all that and learn about my area, but wanted to bring other people in as well.’

She then started the ‘Know Your Country’ project – an initiative which exposes tourists and locals to some of Zululand’s best tourist locations, but also taking locals to other provinces. ‘Zululand is beautiful with amazing landscapes. It is also of great historical significance and we need to appreciate that.’

Next month this young entrepreneur will be exploring the Drakensberg with a group of 30 Zululanders.
