Traffic official charged with corruption
The Zululand Observer has also received public complaints regarding poor service at the Mthonjaneni driver's licencing office

A MTHONJANENI traffic officer charged with corruption was released on R2 500 bail by the Melmoth Magistrate’s Court last Wednesday.
Thandeka Majozi (34) was arrested at her workplace by the Durban serious corruption investigating team on Tuesday after they received a tip-off by a complainant who had visited the traffic department to renew her professional driver’s permit.
KZN Hawks spokesperson, Captain Simphiwe Mhlongo, said the victim claimed that during her eye test, the accused informed her that one of her eyes was totally blind.
‘The accused demanded cash in order to assist her, and when the matter was reported to us, we investigated and set up a sting operation.’
Other complaints
The Zululand Observer has also received public complaints regarding poor service at the Mthonjaneni driver’s licencing office.
A complainant said the cashier was rude to her and refused to make photocopies of her identity document.
‘She sent me from window to window and dealt with me with a very bad attitude.
‘She had no problem making photocopies for every male that was there.
Attempts to obtain comment from the Mthonjaneni Municipality have been fruitless.
