Jailhouse rot for rapist Elvis
The 38-year old man was handed 35 years in prison, after being found guilty on charges of murder, attempted rape and assault
IT is the end of the road for rapist Elvis Dwangu S’khonyane Gumede, who was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Durban High Court last Thursday.
The 38-year old man was handed 35 years in prison, after being found guilty on charges of murder, attempted rape and assault.
According to uMkhanyakude regional police spokesperson, Captain Jabulani Mdletshe, Gumede came across an eight-year-old girl who was playing nearby her home at Mlingo Village in Mkhuze.

He requested her to follow him and promised her R5, which he said was hidden somewhere, near the Engen garage.
‘The suspect grabbed the child, raped her and brutally killed her. He then decided to hide her body in the bushes.
‘The following day he came across the second victim, a 10 year-old girl. ‘He took her to the bushes and undressed her but was prevented when two males came to her rescue, but 30 minutes later the suspect came across a 68-year-old victim, who was busy cleaning the Nazareth Baptist Church temple, and attacked her.

‘The suspect popped out her eye and the victim fought back with a shovel. Another female came and screamed. The police and community responded and the suspect was arrested.
‘After the arrest was made, the suspect pointed out the body of the 8-year-old girl which had been hidden near Thembalethu Township in Mkhuze,’ Mdletshe said. All the families of the victims expressed relief after the sentencing of Gumede.
