Taxi operators kidnap suspected drug dealer

The man opened a case of assault and kidnapping after he alleged that he was standing outside Chester Butchery in Empangeni, when he was forced into a taxi with five men, one of whom was known to him

TAXI drivers and operators are reportedly continuing with their goal to ‘clean up’ Empangeni, after a known drug dealer was kidnapped by a group of men on Tuesday.

The man opened a case of assault and kidnapping after he alleged that he was standing outside Chester Butchery in Empangeni, when he was forced into a taxi with five men, one of whom was known to him.

The men accused him of selling Whoonga and beat him up while they drove around Empangeni for about 20 minutes.

They reportedly stole R500 in cash from the man, along with his cellphone. A warrant has been issued for one of the suspect’s arrest.

Last month, 13 taxi drivers were arrested for public violence in Richards Bay.

This after workers from the Richards Bay and Empangeni taxi ranks took it upon themselves to rid the community of crime after an elderly woman was raped.

Suspected drug dealers, addicts and vagrants were assaulted during the protests.
