A JOINT police operation led to the arrest of a 38-year-old man believed to have been involved in business robbery as well as the murder of a 58-year-old business owner in the Samungu area outside Sundumbili.
Local detectives, together with the Empangeni vehicle identification unit and Public Order Policing unit (POP), conducted a joint operation in Mandeni and arrested the suspect, who was found in possession of a G3 assault rifle with live ammunition and five cellphones, all linked to the case.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Thembeka Mbhele, said a group of armed men stormed into one of the businesses in Samungu on Saturday and stabbed the shop owner before robbing her of an undisclosed amount of cash.
‘On Tuesday police reacted on a tip-off and conducted a joint operation during which the suspect was arrested.
‘He appeared in the Nyoni Magistrate’s Court and was remanded in police custody until next Wednesday,’ said Mbhele.
