Women have taken to social media to call on others to wear black this Friday in solidarity of survivors and victims of women abuse

SOME women have taken to social media to call on others to wear black this Friday in solidarity of survivors and victims of women abuse.
This comes as the nation continues to mourn the women who lost their lives in violent crimes and those who have been, and currently are, victims of abuse.
Anger was fuelled after 19-year-old University of Cape Town student Uyinene Mrwetyana and boxing champion Leighandre Jegels were killed.
Countless other reports of murder and rape were reported during the same time.
Many women took to social media, expressing their concerns about their safety and through the #AmInext? campaign after the public learned that Mrwetyana was raped and murdered by a 42-year-old employee of the South African Post Office.
Social media has been ablaze with widespread anger, with many calling on President Cyril Ramaphosa to declare the scourge a State of Emergency.
Under the hashtags #Metoo and #Menaretrash, women have been vocal about their experiences of abuse, highlighting it as a critical problem in the country.
Schools and businesses in the City of Umhlathuze have joined the movement, with many showing support for victims of abuse by wearing black.
Join the ZO this Friday in mourning for victims of abuse, some of whom may be known to you.
