New street clothing brand established

His fashion brand, African Child Clothing, not only highlights the African legacy, but is also making a statement in the fashion industry

FASHION designer Sanele Mzimela (27) celebrates African culture through striking street wear.

His fashion brand, African Child Clothing, not only highlights the African legacy, but is also making a statement in the fashion industry.

Within a year since he established his clothing line his branded T-shirts, tracksuits, gym wear, sweaters and caps are flooding Zululand streets and beyond.

This young designer from Matshemnyama Reserve outside Empangeni became interested in fashion while studying towards a human resources management diploma at Mangosuthu University of Technology in Durban.

‘I started by printing people’s horoscopes on their T-shirts.

‘When I returned to Zululand I teamed up with my sister and started the clothing company,’ he said.

He started learning new fashion trends, looking for fabrics suppliers and creating unique designs.

Sanele’s dream recently came true when his designs were picked up by a huge fashion retail store.

He hopes to continue designing street wear and bringing unique new concepts to the table.

He also wants to start designing bags and then venture into footwear.
