What’s on in Zululand this weekend
Here's your line-up of weekend entertainment

THIS weekend is packed full of exciting events in and around Empangeni and Richards Bay, leaving no reason to be at a loose end. While Zululanders are good at socialising, this weekend’s calendar of events includes the beach clean-up – a good conservation effort hosted by North Coast Anti-poaching. So mark these dates in your diary to not miss out.

Saturday, midday ’til late – Hosted by the Bobby Greenhash Foundation, Zululand’s One Nation Festival promises much entertainment.
The event is being held outside the Bobby Greenhash offices at Tuzi Gazi Waterfront.
Entertainment from the likes of Sizwe Zakwe, Ayanda Ntuli, Xolane Mdluli and DJ N2K will be on offer.

Saturday – International and local entertainment heavyweights will invade Richards Bay for the second annual
uMhlathuze International Soul and Jazz Festival at the uMhlathuze Sport Complex. Two internationally acclaimed soul and jazz musos, John Stoddart and Syleena Johnson, will feature.

Saturday, 2pm ’til late – Jehova Jireh Community Services is hosting a charity fund-raiser car show in the
Standard Bank car park at Boardwalk Inkwazi Shopping Centre. The event comprises a show-and-shine, a sound-off and low limbo. For more information contact Kevin on 073 1217096 or Anusha on 084 7616676.

Sunday, 8am – North Coast Anti-poaching will host its first spring day beach clean-up in Richards Bay and encourages all to join in. The clean-up will be held at the Bay Hall area is a fund-raising drive to enable anti-poaching volunteers to continue their water patrols.

Sunday, 11am – The Zululand Yacht Club will mark the start of the sailing season with a sail past and other fun yachting activities
Future events to diarise:

Friday, 6 September at 6pm – A chorus of choirs will fill the hills at CityHill Auditorium in Hillcrest. Hosted by Kloof Rotary, Curro HCA and Durban Preparatory High School (DPHS), Festival in the Hills is a highlight of the cultural calendar. 7 September, 7.30am – The annual SANCA/Eyethu Baywatch Walk away from Drugs is being held at the Zululand Multisport Club in Meerensee. This fun 5km walk with prizes for schools is open to everyone and schools are encouraged to ensure as many of their learners as possible participate. 7 September, 8am – Test your mettle at the Polar Bear Swim to be held at the Empangeni municipal swimming pool. Swimmers can register for the individual swim or for team relays.
