Breastfeeding promoted at hospital
Acting hospital CEO, Dr Menitha Samjowan, said it was important to emphasise the benefits of breast milk to new mothers
QUEEN Nandi Regional Hospital celebrated Breastfeeding Week last Tuesday under the theme, ‘Empower parents, enable breastfeeding’.
Acting hospital CEO, Dr Menitha Samjowan, said it was important to emphasise the benefits of breast milk to new mothers.
Working mothers were also advised by Sister Thuli Mthembu about the importance of storing breast milk in a fridge before they go to work.

She said even 2ml of breast milk is more beneficial than formula milk.
‘Breast milk protects babies against all forms of diseases and infections. They get sick less often.’
One mother who has become a breast milk donor at the hospital said she supported mothers who can’t produce milk.
‘Yesterday alone I supplied the hospital with 500ml of breast milk. I do this every day while I can,’ she said.
All mothers who were part of the breastfeeding event were given an opportunity to have questions answered, win prizes and participated in various fun activities.
