Suspect arrested for Induna’s murder

The 27-year-old was remanded in police custody pending further investigations

THE suspect accused of killing Induna Jabulani Ngwenya (55) of Maqeleni Reserve in February, made a brief court appearance in the eShowe Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

The 27-year-old was remanded in police custody pending further investigations.

He was arrested at the KwaMashu men’s hostel last Wednesday.

Ngwenya was shot and killed while entering his homestead and two of his registered firearms were taken during the incident.

King Cetshwayo Cluster Police spokesperson, Captain Mbongeni Mdlalose, said the deceased was declared dead on the scene and a case of murder was registered at the eShowe police station for further investigation.

‘When arrested, the suspect was found in possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition.

‘He appeared in the KwaMashu Magistrate’s Court charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, but the murder case was transferred to eShowe Magistrate’s Court.

Mdlalose said the accused was expected to be back in court on Monday for a bail application.
