SARS working on resolving efiling glitches

THE South African Revenue Service (SARS) says it is working to resolve technical issues experienced by some of its users on the efiling system.

‘We have noted the dissatisfaction expressed by a few taxpayers over technical glitches encountered while trying to submit their tax returns,’ SARS said in a statement.

‘Some taxpayers experienced difficulties with logging in, not receiving one-time pins, were unable to upload supporting documents and had data issues impacting filing, including assessments and tax calculator results.

‘All efforts have been made to resolve these issues expeditiously and minimise the impact on compliant taxpayers who wanted to fulfil their filing obligations.’

Since the opening of the efiling season earlier this month more than one million returns have been submitted, of which 900 000 are for this tax year.

‘SARS has paid out R5.5-billion, with an average turn-around time of seven days for taxpayers who had not been selected for audits and 21 days for those selected for audits,’ SARS said.
