Father wants murder suspect re-arrested
This is after three suspects believed to be responsible for the death of Mduduzi Cebekhulu were released by KwaMsane Magistrate’s court based on an eye witness statement
THE grieving father of a 25-year-old man who was fatally stabbed during a fight which took place outside Mkombose High School in Mtubatuba, has accused police of negligence.
This is after three suspects believed to be responsible for the death of Mduduzi Cebekhulu were released by KwaMsane Magistrate’s court based on an eye witness statement.
The deceased’s father, Philip Cebekhulu (56) said one of the suspects was responsible for stabbing his son to death.
‘The suspect tricked the police. This guy has three surnames, so the witness gave police the surname by which he is known to everybody but when they charged him, he gave police a different surname, and the court set him free,’ said Cebekhulu.
He said it pains him to see the killer of his son roaming the streets freely.
‘As the family we are still mourning my son’s death. We get very hurt and irritated when we see him going past our house every day.
‘When I informed the investigating officer that the suspect is using three surnames, he refused to re-arrest him arguing that a person cannot be arrested for the second time for the same offence after he had been released by court.
‘I want this case to be transferred to another police station, because I am not satisfied with the way it is being handled here,’ said Cebekhulu.
UMkhanyakude Police Cluster spokesperson, Captain Jabulani Mdletshe, said that they had heard about the allegation.
‘Our investigating officer is busy verifying the real surname of the suspect and once it has been finalised, if we discover he was using a fake surname, he will be rearrested and charged accordingly,’ said Mdletshe.
