Burglar regrets his actions

A Mozambican national was assaulted by members of the community in Ngwelezana after being caught red-handed committing a house burglary

AFTER being caught red-handed committing a house burglary on Thursday night, a Mozambican national was assaulted by members of the community in Ngwelezana.

Melo Kumbi (25) was rescued and rushed to the clinic by CPF members.

Kumbi told the community members that he was looking for something to eat and to feed his family. He said he is not working, and depends on his countrymen for food.

‘I live with my 20-year-old wife, and my one-year-old son. I am ashamed of what I did, and I thank God that the community did not kill me.

‘I don’t know what went into my mind to do such a thing,’ he said.

Kumbi was treated and released at the clinic on the very same night.

CPF member, Lovemore Khanyile, urged the residents to work with police, and refrain from vigilantism, calling it ‘a crime’.

‘All criminal activities should be reported to the police so that suspects can be properly prosecuted and punished for offences they have committed,’ he said.

Khanyile said that both the suspect and the home-owner refused to report the matter to the police.
