Mrs Anthony, who founded both the Zululand Observer and its charity arm DICE (Do I Care Enough?), was surrounded by members of the Anthony family, her staff and a host of friends as she gracefully accepted the award from Rotary Club of Empangeni President Andrew Killick and his club members.

Rotary International established the Paul Harris award in 1957 to encourage and show appreciation for substantial contributions in both the commercial and humanitarian fields.

Inspirational

At the presentation, Rotarian Wally Brook, who nominated Mrs Anthony for the award, spoke of their friendship which began in 1978.

‘It did not matter which church or service you went to, she was playing the organ or the piano, and she did so for over 20 years.

‘We watched with delight as she developed the publishing and media enterprise we see before us, and it goes without saying to all in attendance that we should aspire to emulate her,’ he said.

Brook highlighted her charity work in the community that she loves so much.

‘DICE is synonymous with care for children and the aged throughout Zululand.

‘Mrs Anthony, members of the Rotary Club of Empangeni stand in awe of your achievements – both in the commercial world as well as in your untiring efforts to help those less fortunate than ourselves. This award consisted of a certificate as well as a sapphire lapel pin.

The sapphire is added to the pin of those recipients receiving their second Paul Harris Fellow award..
