Programme targets young entrepreneurs

Tackling the high youth unemployment rate is the aim of the programme

IN a bid to tackle the high youth unemployment rate and to give young entrepreneurs a launch pad to success, the My Business Indaba programme and competition is open to those with unique, innovative and sustainable business ideas.

Focusing on young people through the Inkunz’Ísematholeni Youth in Business Programme, Ithala Finance has teamed up with the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) as a stakeholder in the indaba roadshows currently being rolled out across KZN.

As part of the roadshow, a two-day business clinic was recently held in Mbazwane.

‘Having an opportunity to present and interact with young people in various areas, from urban to rural, aids our mandate of encouraging and supporting young people in their entrepreneurial pursuits through funding and non-financial support offered by government agencies,’ said NYDA’s Khumbulani Shange.

Running until late September, the Inkunz’Isematholeni Youth in Business competition aims to stimulate young people into generating business ideas that are innovative and environmentally friendly.

Contemporary business ideas have to encompass environmental issues and be innovative by creating products and services that will be used by consumers of the 21st century, who have more choice and are demanding.

The winner of the competition will receive R200 000 worth of business support.
