WASHING lines across the City of uMhlathuze are ready to receive ‘Hang out with Madiba’ contributions of clothing, blankets and toys at businesses, charities and schools from as early as 7.30am today.

The Zululand Observer’s annual Mandela Day event has been adopted by several companies and organisations, while the newspaper’s lines will be up at the Empangeni office at 3 Baines Road and opposite the municipal offices in Richards Bay until midday.

Zululanders are encouraged to visit a line nearby and peg their items for charity as a contribution of their 67 minutes of goodwill.

Donations can be dropped off at Empangeni, Richards Bay or at the designated venue at Mtunzini Primary School from 9am to midday, which is being manned by the Mtunzini Rotary Club.

Also supporting the initiative this year are the King Cetshwayo District Municipality, Hillside Aluminium, Foskor Richards Bay, Port of Richards Bay and Richtek campus.

All have erected lines at their premises as well.
