Call for children’s clothing on the washing line

Supporting the ZO's 'Hang out with Madiba' initiative, TNPA have set up wash lines at the Employee Care Centre, Infrastructure and Marine Services sections

TRIPLING their Mandela Day initiatives at the Port of Richards Bay, Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) is erecting three washing lines to encourage staff and port users to peg clothing and blankets on the line for charity.

Supporting the ZO’s ‘Hang out with Madiba’ initiative, TNPA have set up wash lines at the Employee Care Centre, Infrastructure and Marine Services sections.

Port Manager Thami Sithole and staff led the way this week by hanging up some of the collected items to promote the 67 minutes of goodwill gesture and to call on individuals for support.

All companies within the port environment are welcome to hang their laundry of love on the lines.
Call to community

‘Hang out with Madiba’ is the Zululand Observer’s annual Mandela Day event and sees members of public participating by pegging clothing, blankets and soft toys on washing lines erected in front of the newspaper’s offices in Empangeni (Baines Road) and in the open space between the Civic Centre and the East Central Arterial in Richards Bay.

Schools, businesses and community groups also participate by setting up their own lines.

This year the support from local corporates and businesses has been overwhelming, with lines also going up at Hillside Aluminium, Richards Bay Police Station, Foskor Richards Bay, Richtek Campus, Mtunzini Primary School, Port of Richards Bay and King Cetshwayo District Municipal offices in Richards Bay.

While all clothing is welcomed, a special request has been made for clothes for infants, toddlers and young children.

Donations will be distributed to the disaster management offices in the City of uMhlathuze and King Cetshwayo District as well to local charities.
