Melomed Richards Bay now offers the first Catheterization Laboratory (cath lab) in the history of Zululand and Northern KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) and brings the life-saving facilities within much closer reach of people living in the area.

Melomed Richards Bay is proudly changing the healthcare landscape in the Zululand and Northern KZN, by offering:

The people of Zululand and Northern KZN no longer have to travel to Durban and its surrounding areas for any medical intervention that is performed in a cath lab and cardiac theatre.

With a limited amount of time (known as the Golden Hour) to perform an intervention once a person suffers a heart attack and/or stroke, Melomed Richards Bay has made the distance to the closest cardiac catheterization laboratory (cath lab) shorter and safer.

In addition, this saves time and money for family and friends who no longer have to travel to Durban and the surrounding areas which could incur excessive travelling and accommodation costs when visiting their loved ones in hospital.

It allows doctors to perform angiograms, to see more closely and have a better view on blood flow, locate clots in the blood vessels and choose one of a number of ways to intervene immediately.

The cath lab enables the doctor to perform a number of procedures amongst others, cardiac, neuro, vascular, including stenting of major peripheral arteries in the arms, legs, kidneys, abdominal aorta and carotid arteries, just to mention a few.
