Young children learn to code

Through the academy, run by young entrepreneurs Tshega Mampshika and Langelihle Zulu, youngsters in uMhlathuze are being taught the ins and outs of software programming

CHILDREN as young as eight-years-old have been learning how to code through an academy developed by a local company, Algorhythmlab.

Through the academy, run by young entrepreneurs Tshega Mampshika and Langelihle Zulu, youngsters in uMhlathuze are being taught the ins and outs of software programming.

Zulu said the lessons, conducted twice a week, aim to equip children at the earliest age possible with digital, information and communications technology (ICT) skills.

‘Coding is basically the process of using a programming language to tell the computer what to do.

‘The classes focus on practical programming and coding skills that equip each student with the ability to solve real life problems using the power of software.

‘These classes also focus on personal development aspects of the children to boost their self-confidence.

Students are required to have their own laptops. Unlimited access to the internet is provided as well as complimentary educational content.
