eSikhaleni intersection nears completion

THE main eSikhaleni intersection upgrade is near completion.

According to the City of uMhlathuze, 50% of the work has been completed and the project is expected to be fully finalised by May next.

‘The estimated period includes the delays that have already taken place and any other hindrances that may lead to more delays while the project continues.

‘In any project, some delays are man-made and some are caused by nature, but eSikhaleni residents are now beginning to see the good impact it will have upon completion,’ said city communications manager Mdu Ncalane.

This project is set to ease traffic congestion currently experienced by frustrated road users when entering or exiting the township.

The upgrade will also include the beautification of the precinct leading to the already upgraded public park

Progress to date

According to the city, the progress is as follows:

The relocation of existing services is 97% complete, and rehabilitation of the existing road P535, which runs towards the N2, is at 97% completion.

The rehabilitation of Mdlebe Ntshona Road towards the Dube Tribal area is at 78%, while 27% of work has been done towards restoring stormwater drainage on the west side of the road towards Port Durnford.

Stormwater and layer works have also commenced to refurbish the south side of Mthombothi Road.

The widening of the culvert on P535 is 38% complete and the upgrade of the township’s monument site is at 4% completion.
