THANKS to uMlalazi ward 12 Councillor Edward Dlamini, who made the King Dinizulu Stadium available, the rabies body in eShowe (Rabies) vaccinated 178 dogs and 16 cats on Saturday morning.
Eight dogs were also treated for mange, while 22 puppies received their 5-in-1 vaccinations against adenovirus cough and hepatitis, distemper, parainfluenza and parvovirus.
The latest report on rabies in the province shows a decrease in the number of rabies incidents, but the situation is still on a knife-edge and could go either way if pets are not vaccinated against the dreaded disease.
Last week a stray dog tested positive for rabies in the Ndabayakhe area near Empangeni.
The dog showed abnormal behaviour and was biting other dogs in the vicinity.
Rabies vaccination is a legal requirement under South African law.
