Don’t ban toy guns

Freak accidents do happen

I read recently about an accident with an air-rifle where a ten year old girl killed her mother whilst playing with her brother’s Christmas present.

I know everyone will be up in arms saying why do parents give their children guns as toys and if they did not then this would not happen.

Whilst I do know we live in a society of violence and yes, guns are bad, I don’t agree with the idea of banning toy guns all together.

My brother, sister and I played Cowboys and Indians for hours during the holidays as well as army games and no one was ever killed.

The difference is that we were taught to never point a gun at somebody else, to never shoot at anything living, and not to leave our toy guns lying around.

If we did, the consequences would be severe and we would not see our toy guns again.

I know freak accidents happen but I do feel that whilst parents want to protect their children they should also teach them discipline and banning every little thing that could harm them is teaching them nothing.
