FNB reverses money ‘incorrectly’ paid to customers

'The incorrect balances were due to delayed debit card transactions for purchases'

FIRST National Bank (FNB) customers believed Christmas came early when they received thousands in their bank accounts on Tuesday.

The bank however announced on Wednesday that this was due to a technical glitch and would be rectified.

‘We can confirm that the issue of incorrect balances on some of our customers’ transactional accounts have been resolved.

‘The incorrect balances were due to delayed debit card transactions for purchases. Sincere apologies to impacted customers for the inconvenience caused,’ FNB said in a statement.

Social media was in a frenzy on Tuesday and Wednesday as many reported that their bank balances had increased but were stunned when the bank said it would be reversing the transactions.

‘So FNB decided to bless me me with R176k @FNBSA what am I supposed to do with it, I don’t want to get arrested,’ one person tweeted.

‘FNB decided to ‘give me’ cash yesterday and now they want it back?’ another Twitter user said.
Others however questioned whether they would pay reversal fees.

‘Yesterday’s FNB miracle money woke up as negative balances.’

‘Lets first establish who is to blame for these ‘technical problems’ system errors because someone might have spent the money, I mean who gets money in their account which had a 0.00 balance and not spend it? now people will have negative balances,’ another Twitter user said.
