Industries expected to meet at Maputo-KZN business fair
The Department of Trade and Industry, the Richards Bay Industrial Development Zone and a number of Maputo-based companies are expected to deliver presentations at the business fair hosted by Maputo-KZN (MAPKZN) trade initiative
BUSINESS and government entities will on Thursday gather at uMhlathuze Municipality’s Civic Centre to discuss opportunities that will emanate from the Mozampique-KZN corridor.
The Department of Trade and Industry, the Richards Bay Industrial Development Zone and a number of Maputo-based companies are expected to deliver presentations at the business fair hosted by Maputo-KZN (MAPKZN) trade initiative.
‘We want this session to encourage unity and open conversation on the development opportunities that will benefit both countries.
‘We are not only assisting to build trade relations for the present but for future generations, ‘ said MAPKZN’s Bheki Langa.
The fair also aims to facilitate intra-Africa trade relations in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region.
‘Our objective is to create a gateway that will link private and public sectors in both regions through networking and trade consultations.
‘As a reflection of our urgency to connect the destinations, MAPKZN has decided on an event that will be the beginning of a journey that will house both private and public sectors under the same roof from both sides of the border,’ Langa said.
The trade fair will take place under the theme: ‘Sparking conversations in creating trade, cultural and special skills relations between northern KZN and Maputo’.
‘We want to explore new business opportunities which have been made possible by the completion of the Maputo-Kosi Bay bridge. The event is open to everyone and entrance is free,’ Langa added.
The Maputo-Katembe bridge, which is reportedly the longest suspension bridge in Africa, was constructed over four years by the China Road and Bridge Corporation.
This development is expected to stimulate trade and tourism between Mozambique and South Africa, with travel time between Maputo to Kosi Bay drastically reduced from six hours to 90 minutes.
