KING Kallis, playing in his last first class cricket match steadied the ship as he battled against some superb bowling in the Protea’s first innings in the second test against India at Sahara Stadium Kingsmead.
He reached his 45th century and was eventually out for 115 off 316 balls before being caught by Mahendra Singh Dhoni off the bowling of Ravindra Jadeja.
Added to this was another milestone when he took his 200th test catch during the visitors’ first knock.
The expected rain on day four did not materialise, but the Proteas are putting the pressure on the India team who are 68/2 and trail Soth Africa by 98 runs with eight wickets remaining.
Top bowler for India was Jadeja who took 6/138 off 58.2 overs, 15 of which were maidens.
Top batsmen were AB de Villiers scored 74 off 117 balls before being caught by Virat Kohli and Alviro Petersen with 62 off 100 balls caught by Murali Vijay both off Jadeja’s bowling.
India’s first innings score of 334 all out, included a fantastic knock of 97 by Vijay and 70 by Cheteshwar Pujara.
Protea’s top bowlers were Dale Steyn who took 6/100 off 30 overs of which nine were maidens and Morne Morkel who took 3/50 off 23.3 overs with six maidens.
If the weather holds, spectators were in for a great last day as South Africa aims to take the last eight wickets which is believed the only possible result of the match, besides drawing.

Well done Jacques Kallis, you will always be remembered as a class act and a great cricketer. Your play reminds me of a young Canadian who lived in Zululand, He was quite a legend as well. Keep it real.
