Woman sexually assaulted at beach

Second sexual assault on Alkantstrand this season

A DAY at the beach after Christmas ended in trauma for a young eSikhawini woman who was sexually assaulted on Alkantstrand at 8pm on Thursday.

She left her companions momentarily to use the toilets when a man suddenly attacked her, holding her at knife-point.

According to the Richards Bay SAPS, the SAPS Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit is currently investigating the matter.

‘She was fortunately not stabbed by the assailant, but received required treatment after the assault,’ says Richards Bay SAPS spokesperson Capt Debbie Ferreira.

‘I would like to urge all visitors to the beach to stay in groups at all times.

‘Be on the alert for possible suspects and save emergency numbers such as 10111 for the SAP on speed dial.

‘Also save your phone service provider’s emergency number, which is 112 for MTN and Vodacom – they will put you in touch with the nearest police station,’ said Ferreira.
