Municipality’s whistleblower hotline active

THE City of uMhlathuze continues to provide a platform for community members to blow the whistle on fraud and corruption through its 24-hour hotline.

At a recent Exco meeting it was reported that between October and December last year 17 calls were received.

The municipality said they envisaged there would be more activity on the hotline as awareness of the programme increases.

The city has contracted the services of Whistle-Blowers SA, an independent and accredited service provider to operate the call facility and provide reports on investigations.

This facility allows employees or third parties to anonymously blow the whistle on irregularities in the municipality.

These include theft, fraud, bribery, unethical practices and any other unlawful or dishonest activity.

All calls and reports remain anonymous and reporters are protected by the Protected Disclosures Act, 26 of 2000.
