Kwambonambi suspects get life sentences

KWAMBONAMBI suspects accused of being in possession of illegal firearms, robbery with aggravated circumstances and kidnapping were found guilty and heavily sentenced by eSikhaleni Magistrate’s Court last week.

Sibongakonke Cebekhulu and accomplice Sithembiso Ndaba were arrested in January 2017 by King Cetshwayo Crime Intelligent Unit, together with Empangeni SAPS and a Durban task force during a joint operation held at Cingci area near KwaMbonambi.

Cebekhulu was facing cases of kidnapping, robbery with aggravating circumstances and possession of unlawful firearm and ammunition.

Cebekhulu will spend 21 years in prison after being sentenced to 13 years for robbery and five years for kidnapping.

He will serve both sentences concurrently. He was further sentenced to eight years for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm, and two years for being in possession of ammunition. Both sentences will run concurrently.

His accomplice, Ndaba was sentenced to 10 years for being in possession of an illegal firearm and two years for unlawful possession of ammunition. He will serve the sentences concurrently.
