Freak hail storm that hit Hluhluwe and outlying areas proves costly
There was much damage caused to crops, cars and building roofs
AFTER the recent freak hailstorm that hit Hluhluwe and outlying areas, locals have been adding the cost of the damage caused by cricket ball sized hail stones.
‘It was a weird storm that came over the area last Thursday which lasted for 20 minutes, then stopped for two minutes before carrying on for a further 10 minutes,’ said Hluhluwe resident Megan van Lelyveld.
‘I was in town at my in-laws’ house when the storm hit.
‘The hail in town were the size of marbles, with the outlying areas being pelted by hail the size of cricket balls.’
There was much damage caused to crops, cars and building roofs.
‘The storm was localised in Hluhluwe and worked its way towards Heritage Hotel,’ said Ian van Lelyveld.
