Bitter residents complain about bus stop rowdiness in Arboretum

This issue has been raised by concerned members of the public who say that complaints have fallen on deaf ears as no intervention has been received from local authorities

A BUS stop in Essenwood Way in Arboretum has become a regular ‘social spot’ where community members meet to drink in public, leave the area in a mess and harass commuters waiting for public transport.

This issue has been raised by concerned members of the public who say that complaints have fallen on deaf ears as no intervention has been received from local authorities.

It is said the group of people meet from 11am at the bus stop situated near a shopping centre and drink in public.

One community member said empty liquor bottles are left in the bus shelter and litter is scattered around the structure, which is also in a dilapidated state.

‘It is sad, because people who are waiting for the bus now have to stand outside on the sidewalk because it is being occupied by people who gather there to socialise,’ the resident said.

‘The men also hurl remarks at women walking past and it is not safe for them to walk in that vicinity as the men are drunk and could be dangerous.

‘It is an eyesore to watch these activities in the streets of the suburbs where many schoolgoing children walk on a daily basis as well. We hope the local authorities will intervene and help deter this illegal activity.’
