Man drowns at small craft harbour – Richards Bay

Eyewitnesses told the rescue team that the victim had been running on the beach, before removing his shirt and walking into the water.

The body of a man was recovered this morning after he drowned at the small craft harbour in Richards Bay.

According to the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI), the man disappeared under the water, opposite the tug berths.

He apparently reached the underfoot ledge before disappearing – in sight of witnesses who tried but failed to save him.

The incident was reportedly captured on CCTV cameras.
