KWAMSANE police are on the hunt for a man accused of repeatedly beating his daughter with a sjambok.
A video of the incident went viral on social media earlier this week after it was posted by Gauteng Minister of Education, Panyaza Lesufi.
The video, which runs for over a minute, shows the girl lying on the ground with her hands bound behind her back.
Her father initially beats her on the legs with the sjambok, but when she pulls her legs away from him, he walks around her and beats the rest of her body.
‘We can confirm that the incident occurred in KwaMsane,’ said KwaMsane SAPS Communications Officer, Captain Jabulani Mdletshe.
‘The incident occurred on 4 January, but the girl’s mother only opened a case on 22 February.
‘Given this length of time between the incident and the case being opened, it was impossible for us to determine the extent of the girl’s injuries.
‘A case of assault with grievous bodily harm is under investigation and we are searching for the suspect.
