Sad passing of beloved editorial colleague

Thando joined the ZO news team in 2015 and was always willing to put his hand up to help his colleagues, who he frequently called 'his family', much to their delight

THE Zululand Observer staff are in mourning following the death of their colleague, journalist Thando Ndlovo (48) on Friday.

Thando had been bravely battling a long illness, and peacefully died at Ngwelezana Hospital in the early hours of the morning.

He joined the ZO news team in 2015 and was always willing to put his hand up to help his colleagues, who he frequently called ‘his family’, much to their delight.

The cause of plenty of laughter in our newsroom, Thando had a mischievous smile and a naughty giggle – but a real passion for the downtrodden in the community.

Each reporter had a fictional rank, carefully chosen by Thando for their character.

He was the General, a moniker by which we will continue to refer to him, always.

‘Our colleague, our brother, our friend: we salute you.’

ZO Editor-in-chief Dave Savides said ‘Thando was a prime example of one whose lack of formal training was more than made up for by his enthusiasm and love for the job.’

‘We will all miss his infectious spirit and enthusiasm, especially the editorial staff. No assignment was too far away or too demanding – he was proudly ‘on call’ 24/7. We will surely miss him and pray blessings on his family.

As the ZO, we can be proud of the fact that we gave him not only a job but a purpose in life, which he fulfilled wonderfully. May his soul rest in peace.’
