Hospital’s water supply restored
Patients not able to bathe or flush toilets for days

LACK of water supply which hindered operations at Melomed Hospital last week, has been restored.
Taps went dry for days without a single drop of water at the private hospital, resulting in major disruptions.
Patients said they were unable to bath or flush toilets for days.
The water supply was, however, back to normal by Saturday morning.
‘My two-year-old child was admitted on Wednesday and from that day we experienced water problems.
‘I only learned about the situation when I was using the toilet,’ said one patient.
Other patients raised concerns about possible germs and bacteria which could lead to secondary illnesses and infections.
The hospital managed the situation by calling for water trucks to fill back-up water tanks by the hour until the main water supply was restored.
The hospital said the problem was caused by a ‘municipal service delivery issue’.
‘We are thankful for the intervention by the city to ensure that the water tankers supplied water to our facility during the unplanned maintenance of the main water line supplying the hospital as well as surrounding businesses in the area,’ said hospital’s Client Services Officer, Palesa Nzuza .
The reason for the water problems is still unknown.
The City of uMhlathuze did not comment on the issue.
