Heavyweight fighter Joshua Pretorius overcomes disappointing defeat and hard at work to bounce back

THE recent split points decision loss for Richards Bay professional heavyweight boxer Joshua ‘Red Beast’ Pretorius in a SA title eliminator has come as a disappointment, but has at the same time ignited a spark and hunger to bounce back.

‘We’re putting the defeat behind us and headed back to the drawing board,’ said coach Corrie Pretorius.

‘This fight against Justice Siliga saw Joshua follow a too cautious strategy, as opposed to the explosive power hitting style he is accustomed to.

‘We are currently working on finding the trigger to switch on the aggression.’

Josh agreed. ‘There was a lot riding on the bout, so I made the mistake of being too cautious and conservative. That won’t happen again,’ said the Red Beast.

After taking a week off after the fight to allow his body to recover, he got back into the full swing of things, ready to show his true potential. The ZO caught up with Josh and his dad.

Pretorius will take on a number of bouts in the near future, including a re-match with Siliga.
