Richards Bay SAPS has issued a notice for motorists not to leave cash or valuables in their cars
Criminals target valuables inside vehicles

A RISE in theft out of motor vehicle cases has prompted the Richards Bay SAPS to issue a warning to motorists not to leave any cash or valuables hidden under the seats or locked in their boots.
This after several cases were reported last week.
In one incident a substantial amount of cash was stolen from a locked bakkie outside a shopping centre.
The theft occurred in the parking lot outside Shoprite in Richards Bay on Thursday at around noon.
The vehicle’s window was smashed to access the money.
Richards Bay police spokesperson, Captain Debbie Ferreira, urged community members to exercise caution when withdrawing large sums of money from the bank and ensure they are not followed.
‘Money or any type of valuables should never be left inside a vehicle, even if you are just going into a store for a few minutes.
‘We advise everyone to carry their valuables with them.
‘Theft out of motor vehicles remains one of our biggest challenges, coupled with remote jamming.
‘The best preventative measure is to physically check that the vehicle doors are locked and not leave any valuable items in the vehicle at all,’ said Ferreira.
