THE South African National Civic Organisation (SANCO) has commended the Minister of Police Bheki Cele for the arrest of suspects linked to the killing of many people and community activists in the Mpembeni area.
SANCO Regional Secretary, Thembinkosi Mthembu, said his organisation was pleased with Minister Cele’s intervention to ensure that the perpetrators were brought to book.
‘At least now families of those who were murdered are likely to get answers.
‘The Mpembeni community has been robbed of their leaders, who were butchered for unknown reasons. These barbaric acts have been going on for years,’ said Mthembu.
Mthembu said the arrest of three suspects, who appeared in the eSikhaleni Magistrate’s Court last week, was a step in the right direction.
‘It is clear the minister’s intervention is bearing some positive results. I appeal to members of the community to join us when the accused reappear in court next week,’ he said.
