Action call following death on the R34 between Vryheid and Ulundi
A teenage boy was killed and another two seriously injured
THE Director of Zulu Rock Lodge, Jeffrey van Staden, is appealing to traffic authorities to intervene following another death on the R34 between Vryheid and Ulundi.
In the latest incident a teenage boy was killed and another two seriously injured when, according to eyewitnesses, two vehicles were overtaking a truck.
The driver of the car that hit the boys continued without stopping, but was later caught in Ulundi.
Van Staden says the road is treacherous with a high accident death rate. The current speed limit is 120km/h despite there being a blind rise and sharp corner close to an area that local residents use as a bus stop and turn-off.
‘We have appealed to the local authorities and SANRAL on numerous occasions prior to this tragedy to put measures in place, such as speed humps and reducing the speed limit to 80km/h to reduce the danger of this road.’
The management of Zulu Rock has offered the families grief counselling.
