Be vigilant on the roads, specially driving at night
'Motorists should never display any valuables on any of their car seats, whether in the front or at the back of the car,' said Richards Bay SAPS Communications Officer, Captain Debbie Ferreira
RICHARDS Bay motorists should be vigilant when driving at night, especially when stopped at an intersection.
This after reports of a ‘smash-and-grab’ at the R619/Central Sports Complex intersection.
A woman’s handbag was reportedly stolen at knifepoint.
Richards Bay SAPS said a case of common robbery did not appear to have been opened, but there are numerous tips for motorists to adhere to, especially when driving at night.
‘Motorists should never display any valuables on any of their car seats, whether in the front or at the back of the car,’ said Richards Bay SAPS Communications Officer, Captain Debbie Ferreira.
‘All doors must be locked, all windows must be closed and people should have pepper spray readily available.’
Ferreira said that when motorists approach a traffic light intersection at night when the light is red, they should drive slowly up to the intersection until the light turns green.
‘Obviously motorists must not jump a red light because that is when accidents occur.
‘Motorists should always be vigilant about vehicles and people around them, and if they see or experience anything suspicious, they should immediately drive to the nearest police station.’
