Zululanders show solidarity with those affected by cancer
'CANSA is committed to connecting people facing cancer with information, day-to-day help, as well as emotional support they need,' said Gumede
RALLIES in support of CANSA Shavathons this month yielded excellent results from local sponsors, volunteers and the public who gave much of their time to shave or spray their hair for the worthy cause.
According to CANSA Richards Bay representative Thobile Gumede, Zululanders once again did not disappoint, showing solidarity with those affected by cancer.

But the organisation is appealing to local corporates, businesses, schools and tertiary institutions to host more Shavathons to help raise funds for cancer awareness.
‘Losing one’s hair is a common side-effect of cancer therapy, so shaving one’s head has become a symbolic gesture of support for cancer survivors.

‘CANSA is committed to connecting people facing cancer with information, day-to-day help, as well as emotional support they need,’ said Gumede.
‘Our aim is to ensure that cancer survivors and their loved ones don’t have to face cancer alone; we’re here to support them on every step of their cancer journey.
‘For its 16th annual Shavathon, you can show your support by bringing your loved ones along to shave, spray or stencil your hair – or do all three.
‘Colouring your hair or paying a ‘Bail Out Fee’ have become options for those who prefer not to shave, or who can’t shave on the day.
‘The Shavathon’s online fund-raising platform has proved to be popular and community members can see how to raise funds as a Shavathon champion and join CANSA’s online community to help spread the word,’ Gumede said.

‘Find out how your school, workplace or organisation can take part in the Shavathon initiative and challenge your competition to do so too.’
If you would like to register your school or workplace, contact Gumede on 083 2423368 or visit https://www.shavathon.org.za/about-cansa-shavathon/ to become an online CANSA champion fund-raiser.
