‘If you can make the world a better place, why don’t you?’ girl asks President Ramaphosa in letter
In the letter, written by Daisy, she praises Ramaphosa for being a 'strong and independent president'
CAN girls be Presidents? Were you friends with Nelson Mandela? If you can make the world a better place, why don’t you?
These were the questions posed in a letter to President Cyril Ramaphosa by a young girl from East London.
In the letter, written by Daisy, she praises Ramaphosa for being a ‘strong and independent president’.
‘I like your work as a president. How hard is it to rule the world? How many people do you need to vote for you?’ she wrote.
In his response, Ramaphosa, who invited Daisy to meet him when he is in East London, said: ‘Girls can be anything they want in the world today.

‘They can be teachers, or scientists or astronauts – and to answer your question, yes they can be presidents too.
‘I believe in the greatness of our country, South Africa, and in young people like you Daisy. To have received a letter from you with such cheerful words gives me hope that South Africa’s future looks bright.’
The exchange between the two quickly became a trending topic on social media.
Ndawonde Senz shared on Twitter: ‘I am ready to serve under the leadership of Daisy. Amandla.’
Carmel Gaillard texted: ‘Wishing you a good visit together Daisy and President Ramaphosa. I look forward to voting for you someday, Daisy! #GirlsCanBePresidentsToo’
