Be aware of road closures for Hippo Run

A number of key routes and roads will be affected on Saturday morning

THE Zululand Multisports Club (ZMSC) is hosting the Hippo Run on Saturday and motorists are urged to take note of road closures during the event.

The most noteworthy road closures will be on the John Ross Parkway, which will have only one lane open to vehicles on both sides.

From Meerensee, from the corner of Grunter Gully and Anglers Rod, all the way to the R619 turn-off, and from there to Saligna.

From Saligna back on the R619, up the John Ross Parkway to Medway road.

The road at the steel bridge will be partially cordoned off but still open to vehicles and half the lane on all other roads to be utilised for the marathon, half marathon and 10km run will be cordoned off for runners.

These road closures will be in effect from 5am to 10.30am on Saturday and motorists are urged to exercise patience, and obey marshals and traffic officers.

Arboretum residents would be better off exiting Arboretum at the Remax intersection or at the traffic lights to Birdswood.

‘Richards Bay has not had a Comrades qualifier for many years and the local running community is very excited about Saturday,’ said Casper Kriel from the ZMSC.

‘We have over 700 entries, which includes a lot of people from out of town.’
